In your journal, reflect on your experience as a learner by considering these questions before reading the ‘Productive Skills’ section.

• Is it important for students to practise their speaking and writing skills in the classroom? Why?
• When you were at school, what opportunities did you have to develop your speaking skills? Were they useful? Why? What could teachers have done differently?
