Stage, Time & Interaction  Procedure
      1. Introduce the topic of the lesson   5 mins   Teacher- Student, S-T, S-S  Hello everybody. Please look at me.   (Flashcard) Look at this man. What’s this? (A shop.) Yes, that’s right. It’s a shop. What kind of shop is it? (A fruit shop.)   Can you think of six different types of fruit? Work with your partner and make a list together. You have two minutes.   Check your instructions: Do you work alone or with a partner? (With a partner.) Do you need to write the words? (Yes.) How many? (Six.) How much time do you have? (Two minutes.)   Students complete the task. Brief feedback.   OK. Let’s see what kind of fruit he sells.
  2. Teach the vocabulary   10 mins   T-S, S-T    Elicit the vocabulary:   (Flashcard) What’s this?  (An apple.) Good.  An apple.   Model and drill:   Model the word clearly once or twice. Drill chorally (whole class) three or four times. Drill individually three or four times. Correct as necessary.   Repeat the ‘elicit’ and ‘drill’ sequence for all the other items of vocabulary. Recap as you go along to help students remember the words.   Re-elicit all the items of vocabulary onto the board.   Elicit and highlight the word stress. (Where’s the stress?)
  3. Practice Task One   10 mins   T-S, S-T    OK. Let’s practice these words. Can you remember them all?   I’m going to point to a picture and say the word. If I say the correct word, you have to repeat it. If I say the wrong word, you should all be quiet. DON’T say the word!   If you are all quiet, the class gets one point. If someone says the word, I get one point.   Are you ready? Let’s practice first.   Run the activity.
  4. Practice Task Two   15 mins   T-S, S-T, S-S      Draw this grid on the board:   Do you like ________? Name: ____________ Name: ____________ Name: ____________   1. bananas           2. apples           3. strawberries           4. oranges           5. grapes           6. pears           Check that students can formulate the questions and answers by pointing at the board and eliciting.   Demonstrate the task with a strong student. Write your partner’s name at the top and demonstrate adding ticks or crosses to the questionnaire as your partner answers.   Check your instructions: Do you work alone or with a partner? (With a partner.) Do you need to write long answers? (No.) Just tick and cross (demo)? (Yes.) How many people do you speak to? (Three.)   OK. Here are your worksheets. Stand up, please..!   Wrap up the activity with a brief feedback stage.
Optional Stages    If time is short, students could just interview two people. Fast finishers could fold their paper over and interview another classmate.
